Fresh Market Update

Like to know what's happening across Australia at the Fresh markets?

From what's in season, to how the weather is affecting crops - every week our Fresh Market Update will give you all the latest information.

This week at the National Markets:

  • At your local supermarket or greengrocer this week, Broccoli will be in shorter supply and prices high. Queensland's season has ended earlier than usual and the incoming Victorian crops have suffered from an outbreak of white blister that has affected their quality. Supply and prices should stabilise over the next two to three weeks.

  • The Victorian season for iceberg lettuce is now underway so you'll find an increasing supply over the coming weeks and prices will ease. Choose lettuce that feels heavy for its size.

  • Finally, Australian wildflowers from Victoria and Western Australia are in peak season for the next five weeks.

This week at the WA Markets:

  • Versatile White Star Potatoes from Baldivis and Myalup are in season until the end of the month and prices are good. This large, waxy potato has smooth, cream-coloured skin and is best for mashing or baking.

  • You'll also find an excellent supply of well-priced, locally grown Strawberries at your local supermarket or greengrocer. Look for bright red fruit that's blemish-free.

  • Supply of Gourmet Tomatoes from Carnarvon is slowing as the season ends. Prices will be higher until supply from Wanneroo begins in November. Until then, Tomatoes are coming from Bundaberg and Bowen in Queensland.

That's this week's wrap up, from the markets.
