Regulatory Requirements
All Private Label products must comply with Government regulations within Australia and New Zealand.
Food
- Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) - develops food standards, and joint codes of practice with industry, covering the content and labelling of food sold in Australia and NZ. This body also develops Australia-only food standards that address food safety issues including requirements for primary production and maximum residue limits for agricultural and veterinary drug residues.
- New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) - is the NZ controlling authority for imports and exports of food and food-related products. It administers legislation covering: food for sale, primary processing of animal products and official assurances related to their export, exports of plant products and the controls surrounding registration, and use of agricultural compounds and veterinary medicines.
Consumer Products
Australia
- Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) - safeguarding public health and safety in Australia by regulating medicines, medical devices, blood and tissues.
- Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) is a computer database of therapeutic goods. Unless exempt, therapeutic goods are divided into two classes - medicines and medical devices. Unless exempt, therapeutic goods must be entered as either 'registered' foods or 'listed' goods before they may be supplied in, or exported from Australia.
- Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) - a Government authority responsible for the assessment and registration of pesticides and veterinary medicines and for their regulation up to and including the point of retail sale.
New Zealand
- Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA) - Regulatory authority which monitors and coordinates compliance with the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act and Authority decisions.
- New Zealand Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Authority (Medsafe) - authority responsible for the regulation of therapeutic products in NZ.
Other
- Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) – a statutory authority with responsibility for ensuring that individuals and businesses comply with the Commonwealth competition, fair trading and consumer protection laws. It enforces a range of legislation including the Trade Practices Act.
- New Zealand Commerce Commission - enforces legislation that promotes competition in NZ. markets and prohibits misleading and deceptive conduct by traders. It enforces a number of pieces of legislation including the Fair Trading Act.
