Fresh Food Grants

Fresh Food GrantsLaunched in 2007, the Woolworths Fresh Food Grant is committed to awarding $100,000 to a specific project annually for 10 years. To be eligible, projects must focus on improving fresh food sustainability in Australia.

The inaugural award went to Houston’s Farm to support the development of a carbon footprinting tool for the horticulture industry. Moraitis received the grant in 2008 for piloting the use of bio-char in agriculture.

In 2009, Ingham’s received the award for ground-breaking water treatment technology that returns over 70 percent of processed water to drinking water standard.

Royal Agricultural Shows

Royal Agricultural Shows celebrate achievements in agriculture through various competitions that bring part of country to the city and promote awareness of rural industries, lifestyles and issues.

Woolworths is a major sponsor of many Royal Agricultural Shows around the country, and this involvement helps ensure the tradition continues. The Shows reach more than 2 million people each year, starting with the Royal Canberra Show in February, followed by the Sydney Royal Easter Show, and Royal Shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Hobart.

Creating Future Leaders

Woolworths recognises the need for a greater investment to attract and retain skills and leadership within the agricultural sector. Incentives and career development opportunities are essential to encourage young people outside the industry to pursue a path in agriculture and help these future leaders reach their full potential

Australian Rural Leadership Program

The Australian Rural Leadership Program (ARLP) aims to establish a network of informed, capable and ethical leaders who work collaboratively to advance the interests of their industries, communities and rural Australia in general. The program works to improve the capacity of rural leaders to engage wherever a challenge is best addressed, and wherever they can contribute most effectively.

The third recipient of the Woolworths ARLP scholarship is Kelly Drysdale. A viticultural manager from South Australia, Kelly is responsible for the monitoring of the management of Casella’s 22 properties.
