Meet the Farmer: Alan Poggioli, Golden Triangle Avocados

For fourth-generation avocado grower Alan Poggioli, supplying Woolworths with Hass avocados for over 25 years isn’t just a job – it’s a masterclass in working in harmony with Mother Nature. Alongside his brother Dean, Alan runs Golden Triangle Avocados in Tolga, Queensland – a sub-tropical pocket of the state where Hass trees thrive in nutrient-dense, red volcanic soil. “It has a great climate,” says Alan. “And the land itself is perfect.”

But even with nature on their side, the Poggiolis know success also requires attention to detail.

“We focus on quality at every step of the process – from monitoring before harvest to ensuring the fruit has reached full maturity to get a deliciously creamy Hass avocado,” Alan explains.

The final step, and perhaps most crucial, is the harvest. “We need to be gentle with the fruit,” says Alan. “We don’t want all the pre-work ruined prior to the avocados reaching the customers.”
