NT Container Deposit Scheme

At Woolworths, we are committed to providing great value on your weekly shop. From 1 July 2026, Northern Territory's Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) will expand to include a wider range of beverage containers such as glass wine and spirit bottles, most beverage and plain milk containers (including long-life) up to 3L. As a result, prices on eligible products will be adjusted to incorporate the new scheme fees. These costs are a direct requirement of the legislative expansion and are applied specifically to support NT’s recycling and environmental goals.

Customers can obtain a 10 cent refund for every eligible bottle, can or carton returned to a designated refund point throughout the Territory. Impact on Promotions From 1 July 2026, our shelf prices will increase to include these new fees. Consequently, our red offers and yellow promotions will be calculated based on these new shelf prices. Any price reductions will be shown against the updated retail prices.

Following the Northern Territory's recent Container Deposit Scheme expansion, nearly all beverage containers up to 3 litres - including previously excluded items like wine, spirit, and plain milk bottles - are now eligible for a refund. All eligible containers will have a 10 cent label on the container, which will mean, provided that it is in good condition (uncrushed, empty and with the label and barcode intact), it can be returned to a designated refund point in Northern Territory.

Integral to the design of the scheme was the desire for all Territorians to be able to participate in the Scheme and get a 10c refund for their eligible containers. The Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA) will establish and maintain a territory-wide network of over 30 designated refund points.
