Dutch baby 101
Amanda’s top tips for making the best Dutch baby pancakes
Fresh Ideas expert Amanda is here to help you master a delicious Dutch baby pancake. Similar to a Yorkshire pudding, a Dutch baby is made from a batter of pantry staples (self-raising flour, milk and eggs) that are whisked together, poured into a hot frying pan. The pan is then placed in a hot oven, which will cook the batter until puffed and golden. Allow the Dutch baby to stand (it will drop in a slightly uneven way) before filling it with your favourite toppings.
“A Dutch baby is my favourite budget-friendly way to use up my leftovers. The super simple batter is made with three ingredients and cooked in one large frying pan. It’s such a great way to get creative with your pantry staples and try different flavour combinations with your leftover ingredients. You can also use a rectangular roasting pan if you want to experiment with a different shape,” says Amanda.
