What are the changes to the recipe?
Smitten recipes have been enhanced across the entire range to offer better nutrition for your pets. Specifically:
Smitten Wet Food 400g: The new recipe has been improved with only minimal changes. These improvements include increased meat content, reduced variation in meat components and a single meat source for some products.
Smitten Dry Food: The new recipe does not contain cereal by-products, with the recipe now exclusively featuring wholegrains and excluding feather meal.
New Recipe:
Smitten Pouch 12x85g
Smitten 85g Tin
My pet has a sensitive stomach; is the new formula safe for them?
Yes, however, we highly recommend transition feed.
Transitional Feeding? Why is this important?
Transitional feeding is important because,
It protects their digestive system. Unlike humans, who eat a variety of different foods every day, pets often eat the same recipe for months or years. Their digestive system produces specific enzymes and good bacteria to break down that specific recipe. A sudden change can overwhelm their system leading to illness such as vomiting, diarrhea, excessive gas and bloating.
It prevents food aversion. If a pet eats a new food and immediately feels a bit nauseous or gets an upset tummy, they may associate that feeling with the new food. This can lead to food aversion, where they refuse to eat the new diet even if its much better for them.
For better nutrient absorption. A gradual switch allows the gut flora to adapt, ensuring your pet is actually absorbing the vitamins and minerals from the new food rather than it just passing through their system as waste.
Are the feeding guidelines the same or do I need to feed more / less now?
While our feeding guidelines remain the same, we always recommend checking the back of the pack for the most accurate details tailored to the new formula. Every pet is unique, so you need to adjust the amount slightly based on your pet’s activity level, age, and overall condition to keep them at their healthy best.
