TAS Government’s Recycle Rewards Scheme

Plain milk bottles or cartons, flavoured milk containers of 1L or more, glass wine bottles, glass spirit bottles, concentrated cordial bottles, and juice containers of 1L or more are not eligible for a refund. Household food containers (e.g. tuna cans) are also not eligible for refunds.

The Scheme will result in the price of certain products increasing by 22¢* per container. This charge consists of a 10c* refundable component, a 2c* GST component, with the remainder of the 22c* paid by a customer (10c) to be applied to scheme administration costs. Customers can obtain the 10¢ refund at designated refund points around Tasmania.

Where Scheme fees apply, our shelf prices will increase. From 1 May 2025, our yellow ticket promotions and red ticket offers will be based on the new shelf prices that have been increased as a result of the Scheme. Price reductions will be shown against the new shelf prices.

Here’s an example of what that could mean for a 30 x 375ml pack of soft drink:

• $28 Pre 1 May 2025 price
• + $6.43 Refundable Fee, Scheme Admin Fee, and GST (30 x 21.43¢*)
• = $22.72 New shelf price
• $3.00 Eligible refund (10¢ per container returned)

*The cost per eligible container as determined by the Scheme Coordinator of the Tasmanian Government’s Recycle Rewards Scheme, inclusive of the 10¢ refund, per Aluminium can is 21.43¢ incl GST. Costs of administering the Scheme may vary by container type and over time. The example shown above uses the quoted May 2025 cost per Aluminium can as published by the Scheme Coordinator that commenced on 1 May 2025.

Here’s an example of what that could mean for a 1.25L bottle of soft drink:

• $3.60 Pre 1 May 2025 price
• + $0.22 Refundable Fee, Scheme Admin Fee, and GST (21.76¢*)
• = $3.82 New shelf price
• $0.10 Eligible refund (10c per container returned)
