Woolworths Online and In Store Collection Notice

At Woolworths, we care deeply about your privacy. And that means giving you what you need to make informed choices.
We want to make it simple for you to understand how we collect, use and share your personal information when you shop with us online and in our stores, so please read on to find out more. When we refer to “we”, “us” or “our” in this collection notice, we mean Woolworths Supermarkets, Metro, Woolworths Online and Everyday Market from Woolworths.

1. When does Woolworths collect my personal information?
When you shop online either on Woolworths Online or Everyday Market from Woolworths
- We collect your name, residential address, email address, phone number, date of birth (DOB), gender
- We collect details of your orders and payment, either directly from you or from anyone ordering on your behalf.
When you visit one of our Woolworths Supermarket or Metro stores
- We collect footage that may contain your image
- We collect your name and contact details from you, in the event of an incident, complaint or other investigation
- We collect your payment information if you choose to buy something.
When you scan your Everyday Rewards Card or link your Everyday Rewards Card to your account
- We collect your Everyday Rewards Card number
- We collect information about purchases that earn Everyday Rewards points and your use of those points
- We collect transaction details when you scan your Everyday Rewards Card in-store or enter your Everyday Rewards Card number at checkout when you shop online, in order for us to deliver the benefits of Everyday Rewards.

When you access our website and apps (including the Woolworths Online website and app, and other Woolworths Group websites and apps e.g. Everyday Rewards, BIG W, MILKRUN, Healthylife) or interact with digital marketing communications or our online ads
- We collect information about your device (such as your IP address, or device type e.g. mobile or computer), software, browser version
- We collect browsing behaviour, online activity and interactions (e.g. how you navigated to our website or app, what you see, what you click), as well as website and app usage stats (including number of app downloads and active users)
- We collect location data, for example to determine your closest store to fulfil your online order, notify us when you’re nearby to collect your order, or to utilise the in store version of the Woolworths App, including providing you with directions when you use the Product Finder feature.
You can change the settings on your browser or device to manage, disable or block the use of some digital technologies by Woolworths and third parties. If you do disable these settings, you may find that you have a different or limited experience when interacting with Woolworths websites and apps.
When you communicate with us (for example when you call our call centres, contact our Customer Hub, interact with us on social media, via chatbot, respond to surveys or provide feedback)
- We collect details of that interaction and the information you provide us with
- We collect audio recording of phone calls pursuant to the collection notice read out to you when you call.
When you purchase a restricted item online for delivery
We, our delivery partners, or any third party technology service providers that we use to verify the validity of your ID and/or age:
- may require you to provide a valid ID when purchasing restricted items (including liquor) and your ID may be scanned by the delivery driver
- may collect, hold, disclose and retain your personal information for the limited purpose of verifying the validity of your ID and/or age (including against government records) when you place or receive your order for restricted items (including liquor)
- may encrypt and securely store select personal information (such as DOB and ID expiration date) for a reasonable period of time, including for compliance purposes.
Your name, DOB and expiry date from your ID may be encrypted and retained by our delivery partners for compliance purposes, though the scanned image and any other data collected from the ID will be deleted shortly after your age is verified. 2. Why does Woolworths collect my personal information?
We use your personal information for various purposes including to:
- take and deliver your grocery orders and Everyday Market from Woolworths items.
- we collect your personal information to register and manage your account, take and deliver your grocery orders, and enable our Everyday Market Partners (i.e. those that sell you Everyday Market from Woolworths items) to take and deliver your Everyday Market from Woolworths orders
- we use your contact details if we need to communicate with you about your grocery and Everyday Market from Woolworths purchases.
- keep you, our team members and suppliers safe, and reduce instances of retail crime.
- we may collect your personal information when you shop in our stores to keep you, our team members and suppliers safe and to reduce instances of retail crime. For example, cameras (including CCTV and team safety cameras) or similar technology may record footage which may contain your image
- we may use your personal information when conducting investigations in cases of safety and security incidents, fraud, retail crime and loss prevention activities, or data security risks.
- personalise your experience across Woolworths Online and other Woolworths Group brands.
- for example, when you link your Everyday Rewards Card or we otherwise think we can identify you (e.g. if you use some of the same login or contact information when logging into different Woolworths Group brands) across the various Woolworths Group brands (e.g. Woolworths Online, Everyday Rewards, BIG W and MILKRUN), we take your past interactions into account to show you content that we think is more relevant to you.
- deliver direct marketing and targeted advertising.
- if you have opted in to receive marketing communications, we use your email address to send you emails and SMS
- we take your past interactions into account when deciding what advertising to show you (e.g. if we know you have already downloaded the Woolworths App, we try to to avoid showing you another ad to download the App).
- perform data analytics and reporting. We measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns and online advertising by using information about whether you saw or interacted with an ad or email we sent.
- improve our services.
- we may collect and use your personal information to improve our business and operational practices generally, including by monitoring or recording our interactions with you for training purposes
- we may need to collect your personal information when recording your feedback and product reviews, as well as when investigating and responding to your enquiries and (hopefully very rare) complaints.
- run and manage our businesses efficiently, and other purposes permitted or required by law.
- we collect and use your personal information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, for instance when we are managing product quality or safety issues, selling restricted products such as alcohol and interacting with regulatory bodies and other relevant government entities.
3. Who does Woolworths share my personal information with?
We share your personal information with:
- our delivery partners, to fulfil your purchases from Woolworths Online & MILKRUN.
- operational, technology and software service providers. These include delivery partners, IT services, fraud detection and call centre suppliers. You can find out more about some of the technologies we use in certain stores, including when your personal information may be shared with third parties, on our In-Store Technology and your Privacy page.
- Everyday Market Partners. For customers who have placed an Everyday Market from Woolworths order, your details will be shared with the sellers of the items you ordered (i.e. our Everyday Market Partners) so they can arrange to fulfil your purchases (including by sharing your personal information with their delivery partners if required). We will only share your personal information with Everyday Market Partners for this purpose, or to assist with investigating and responding to your queries or complaints.
- Healthylife Pharmacy. If you add pharmaceutical products to your cart or submit an order, we will collect personal information about you for the purpose of processing your order. In respect of any pharmacy products you order from Healthylife Pharmacy, we will provide this information (which may include an eScript code) to Healthylife Pharmacy so that they can supply the products you have ordered. Healthylife Pharmacy will handle your personal information in accordance with their privacy policy. You will need to contact Healthylife Pharmacy for information on your pharmacy order. We do not use or share the pharmaceutical product information you provide us with for any other purpose other than to fulfil your order from HealthyLife Pharmacy.
- other Woolworths Group brands who you may interact with (e.g. BIG W, Everyday Rewards).
- the Police, other retailers and fraud detection services providers, in relation to an investigation or legal proceedings. For example, in limited circumstances, we share CCTV footage with the Police, for incident, safety or legal investigations.
- call centre suppliers.
- social media companies and third parties where we display advertising. For example, we share certain information with digital platforms like Google and Meta, that allows them to serve you more relevant ads when you’re browsing third party websites and social media.
- sale of business. Should we ever explore the sale of any part of our business, we may need to share personal information with potential and final acquirers.
- other entities where permitted or required by law.
For practical and security reasons, we can’t provide an exhaustive list of the organisations and locations to which we share personal information.
When sharing your personal information (including overseas), we take steps to ensure that recipients protect this personal information in accordance with Australian legal requirements and that they are only permitted to use personal information for the purpose for which it is shared. 4. What are my rights?
If you have a query or complaint you would like to discuss with Woolworths relating to a privacy matter, you can contact the Woolworths Group Privacy Office (see section 5).
If you would like to opt-out of marketing communications and promotions from Woolworths Online and Everyday Market from Woolworths, you can change your marketing communications settings by logging into your Woolworths Online account and visiting My Account - Preferences.
If you receive any marketing communications or promotions from us via email, you can click on the unsubscribe link in the email to opt-out from that particular communication. You can opt-out from receiving push notifications, in-app messages or sharing your location with us by changing the permissions on your mobile device.
