PF-4 Fluoride Reduction K5350 Filter - Twin Set - for Doulton Ceramic filters - Omnipure
Suits British Berkefeld(R), Royal Doulton(R) Stainless Steel and Durand Fluoride Reduction Systems
SET OF BERKEY PF-4 FLUORIDE REDUCTION ELEMENTS FOR USE WITH WHITE CERAMIC DOULTON FILTERS ONLY.
Sold in sets of 2
PF-4 reduction elements, are designed for use with Doulton ceramic filtration elements to adsorb the following four unwanted elements most commonly found in drinking water.
PF elements contain inert high-grade activated alumina, an efficient way for reducing fluoride from drinking water.
PF-4 (previously known as Flow K 5350) Reduction Elements absorb (remove):
- > 95% Fluoride
- Lead, Arsenic, MTBE, DBCP, THMs, Herbicides, Pesticides and Heavy Metal Ions
PF-4 and PF-2 elements are identical in their function. The only difference is that PF-4 elements are needed for use with Super Sterasyl filters (1/4" BSP fitting), while PF-2 elements are required for Black Berkey filters (11mm fitting).
Technical Information:
PF-4 reduction elements are designed for use with Doulton ceramic filtration elements to absorb the following four unwanted elements most commonly found in drinking water.
- MTBE (Methyl-tertiary-butyl-ether)
- Fluoride
- Lead
- Arsenic
PF filters are also designed to absorb:
- DBCP (Dibromo-chloro-propane)
- THMs (trihalomethanes)
- Herbicides & Pesticides
- Heavy Metal ions
Please note: These filter elements have a specific threading size that will only fit to ceramic Doulton and British Berkefeld filters. If you are unsure which filters you need to use, please contact us on 1800 044 722.
- Fluoride: Testing for fluoride was based on 20-30ppm of the ion in the influent aqueous solution at a flow rate of no more than 3 gpm (11 lpm) per cubic foot of media. Results of <1ppm of the fluoride ion in the effluent were typical for the media (>95% reduction). Under optimum conditions, effluent concentrations of less than 50 ppb were readily achieved (>99.75% reduction).
Please note that the average level of fluoride in Australian town water supplies is 1ppm. These filters are what we believe to be most effective as they are tested at a much higher level and are guaranteed for the capacity of the filter. When using these elements in a gravity system, such as our stainless steel or ceramic systems, these filters have longer contact with the media and are therefore more effective than when tested under a higher flow rate. - Arsenic: This product uniquely targets the entire family of arsenic oxide anions as well as the arsenic cations.
- Lead: Tests have shown that when 7,500 litres of influent water at a concentration of lead of 150-200 ppb pass through 200 grams of media at a flow rate of 1gpm, the lead level was reduced to less than 1ppb (99% reduction).
- MTBE (Methyl-tertiary-butyl-ether): Berkey PF elements are manufactured to exceed ANSI/NSF standard 53, which requires MTBE be reduced by at least two thirds from an influent rate (water going out) of less than 5ppb (>95% reduction*)
*Actual capacity is dependent on the presence of other competing contaminants in the source water. High levels of total organic carbons and volatile organic compounds may reduce the capacity and efficiency of the elements.
Replacement:
Under normal conditions it is recommended that each PF element be replaced after 1,000 litres (or 2,000 litres if you are using two elements in your system). If you consume about 5 litres of filtered water a day, you would need to replace your filters every 6 months in a system using 1 ceramic filter and 1 element at a time (or every 12 months if using a system using 2 filters and 2 elements).
Actual capacity is dependent on the presence of other competing contaminants in the source water. High levels of fluoride, arsenic and heavy metals may reduce the capacity and efficiency of the elements.
Caution: Elements must be washed and primed BEFORE USE.
Do not install PF Elements before reading installation instructions.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
WATCH A SHORT VIDEO ON THE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE HERE
Please note: This video demonstrates the below procedure with a PF-2 element (for Black Berkey elements). The procedure is the same for PF-4 and PF-2 elements.
PRIMING PROCEDURE
The media in your PF elements contain micro fine process dust that can cause the filtered water to have a bitter taste. To dislodge the process dust from your element, it is necessary to prime each element. To prime your element use the following procedure:
- With blue caps in place wash the exterior of each element with mild dish soap.
- With clean hands, remove both blue caps from the end of each element.
- Place the rubber washer (priming button) onto one of the elements and align the hole in the button with the hole in the element. Hold on to your priming button for further priming.
- Press the priming button up against a sink faucet so that the priming button creates a seal between the faucet and the PF element.
- While holding priming button against faucet (place thumb on top of faucet to apply pressure and create a better seal), turn on the cold water gently, allowing water to fill the cavity of the PF element and discharge for at least 20 seconds or until water runs clear, whichever is longer.
- Turn the PF element the other direction and prime the other end repeating steps 3-5. The element has now been primed.
- Repeat the above steps with the second PF element.
INSTALLATION AND USE:
- Assemble the water filter as per system assembly instruction.
