July Moon - Alistair Ogilvy CD

July Moon is the second studio album from Scottish singer-songwriter Alistair Ogilvy - a strong collection of self-penned material, this time released on his own label, July Moon Records. Alistair recorded this album at the famous Chem19 studios determined to push some genre boundaries while focusing on varying themes of love and loss, poetry, and nostalgia. Although the album was written during a warm happy summer, there s a tinge of underlying darkness and melancholy. Along with his core band members - Kieran Heather (Washington Irving) and Kristan Harvey (Blazin Fiddles) - here, he brought together a stellar cast of collaborators. Louis Abbott (Admiral Fallow) produced the album and left impressive fingerprints in the process, creating some unique sounds, textures and rhythms (he also plays drums). The renowned film composer Craig Armstrong (Great Gatsby, Romeo and Juliet) left his considerable mark too with a quite beautiful string arrangement on Deep Blue Sea, which also features cello and viola from members of the Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Guest vocals came from three very special people: Karen Matheson of Scottish super group Capercaillie, successful singer/song-writer Jerry Burns and Siobhan Wilson, a rising star in her own right. Alistair cites artists such as Kate Bush, Nick Drake and Fairport Convention among those who have inspired him.
