Kocide Blue Xtra is an easy-to-use copper fungicide that protects fruit trees, vegetables and ornamentals from a wide range of fungal and bacterial diseases. It's based on copper present as copper hydroxide, a Group M1 protectant fungicide, and it controls diseases including black spot, leaf curl, downy mildew, blight, leaf spot, bacterial rot and bacterial canker. This handy 30g pack makes up to 20 litres of spray.

Traditional copper sprays like Bordeaux mixture and copper oxychloride work, but they need a lot of copper on the plant to do the job. Kocide Blue Xtra uses an advanced copper hydroxide technology that makes the copper more available to work against disease, so you get strong protection with less metallic copper applied. In practice that means a more efficient spray that mixes easily without clogging, is non-corrosive in the sprayer, and has good rainfastness once dry, a genuine improvement over the older Bordeaux and oxychloride style products.

Like all copper fungicides, Kocide Blue Xtra is a protectant. The copper ions form a barrier on the plant surface that stops fungal spores and bacteria from establishing, disrupting their cell processes on contact. Because it protects the surface rather than curing infection inside the plant, it works best applied preventively, before disease takes hold, and with thorough coverage of the plant, including the undersides of leaves. As a multi-site protectant, it also has a low risk of resistance, which makes it a useful part of a spray program.

Mix the powder with water and apply as a spray, covering all plant surfaces evenly. This 30g pack makes up to 20 litres of spray (around 1.5 g per litre). Apply at the first sign of disease or as a preventative, and reapply as directed based on weather and disease pressure, reapplying after significant rain since it's a contact product. For stone fruit diseases like leaf curl, apply as a semi-dormant spray at bud swell, before the buds open. Always follow the product label rates for your crop and disease.

Copper can cause leaf or fruit marking (phytotoxicity) if over-applied, particularly in cool, wet conditions, so stick to the label rate and don't over-apply. Copper is also corrosive to metal, so avoid spraying or drift onto cars, metal roofing and similar surfaces. Wear gloves and eye protection when mixing and spraying, avoid inhaling the dust, and wash your hands after use.
