Key Features:
- Sony's newest Starvis 2 CMOS technology
- Sharper resolution and superior detail
- Reduced pixel size and heightened sensitivity
- Seamless integration with your Origin system
- Optimised calibration for stunning results
Upgraded Imaging Performance
The Origin 678C replaces the original Origin 178C, offering a significant upgrade in image quality. With more effective pixels and finer resolution, you'll capture more intricate details in your astrophotography. This upgrade enhances your overall Origin experience and brings a new level of clarity to your night sky images.
What's New with the Origin 678C
The IMX678C sensor brings several improvements over its predecessor. It features smaller 2.0 um2 pixels compared to 2.4 um2 in the IMX178C, giving a finer resolution of 1.2 arcseconds per pixel. This allows you to resolve more detail and "zoom in" more closely on celestial objects. The sensor also produces slightly larger files due to its 8.4 MP count versus 6.4 MP, and offers subtly increased sensitivity, capturing faint stars with precision. Additionally, the 16:9 aspect ratio provides a more rectangular field of view, ideal for composing and sharing images on modern displays.
Quick and Hassle-Free Installation
Installing the Origin 678C Camera is simple and straightforward. Designed for seamless integration with your Origin system, it requires no complicated tools. Simply remove the existing camera, attach the Origin 678C using the included adaptor and retaining ring, and plug it in. The Origin app guides you through capturing new calibration frames, including dark frames to reduce sensor noise and flat frames to correct illumination variations.
Optimised Calibration for Stunning Results
For the best results, we recommend using the PrimaLuceLab GIOTTO flat-field generator for Celestron Origin, which works with the same smartphone you use to control Origin. Capturing new flat frames ensures your upgraded camera system delivers high-contrast, detailed astrophotography from your very next imaging session. This step optimises your setup and guarantees consistently excellent results. Give Your Origin-178C Camera a Second Life
Upgrading to the Origin 678C doesn't mean your original 178C goes unused. Thanks to its standard M42 T-thread connection, it can easily mount to other telescopes and serves as a capable planetary or lunar imaging camera. In minutes, your 178C can take on a new role in your astrophotography toolbox, extending its usefulness and allowing you to capture even more of the night sky.
