Pleasantly Surprised. I use a lot of sweet chilli sauce as we love Asian inspired dishes, yet I tend to buy Mae Ploy Sweet Chilli Sauce (a product of Thailand) which is very distinct in it’s flavour. When I received this sample, I was sceptical as I don’t usually buy nor eat standard Sweet Chilli Sauces as they just don’t taste the same as the Thai one I like. However, I was very pleasantly surprised at how delicious this sauce was. The large 700ml bottle was easily located with the other sweet chilli sauces, and I loved that the label didn’t cover the whole bottle. You could easily see not only the colour but consistency of the sauce before purchase. I liked the larger quantity, but it is a tricky bottle to store in the fridge. This sauce is quite runny when poured but I prefer a thinner sweet chilli so this was a plus for me. It really depends how you want to use it, and in this instance I was making a marinade for some chicken I was stir frying to put on top of salad (I used soy, oyster, hoi sin and sweet chilli). Flavour wise, it was spicy without being hot, perfect balanced with sweetness. I really enjoyed the mild yet distinct heat of the chilli. It didn’t, however, taste like my usual Mae Ploy so I would probably just use it in cooking, not as a dipping sauce or ingredient for a dressing. The price point makes this exceptional value for money and the large volume in the bottle makes it a very economical option. Personally, I won’t be tempted to make the switch in this instance BUT I do recommend this product for flavour and value.
