Description
Serve this crowd-pleasing cheesy fondue cob on a platter with veggies, bread pieces and meatballs. It will make the ultimate starter on any occasion.
Instruction tip
Swap tip:Use crusty cob loaf as the tasty base for the cheesy fondue instead of Woolworths crafted ancient grains & sprouted seeds sourdough (pictured).
Method
Step 1 of 5
Preheat oven to 190°C/170°C fan-forced. Line 2 large baking trays with baking paper.
Step 2 of 5
Cut 2cm off top of cob. Leaving a 1cm border, remove soft bread from centre of cob. Place cob on a prepared tray. Spray with oil. Cut soft bread and cob lid into large pieces. Arrange chopped bread on remaining prepared tray. Spray with oil. Season. Bake both trays for 12 minutes, turning chopped bread pieces halfway during cooking or until toasted.
Step 3 of 5
Meanwhile, spray a frying pan with oil. Heat over medium heat. Add meatballs and cook, turning for 10 minutes or until golden-brown and cooked through. Transfer to a serving dish and cover to keep warm.
Step 4 of 5
Meanwhile, place garlic and wine in a large saucepan over high heat. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium. Simmer for 5 minutes. Add cornflour, cream cheese, gruyère and cheese blend. Cook, whisking often, for 10 minutes or until mixture bubbles and thickens slightly.
Step 5 of 5
Remove trays from oven. Working quickly, place cob on a serving board. Pour cheese mixture into cob. Arrange bread pieces, radish, celery, carrots, cornichons and meatballs around cob. Sprinkle with dill. Serve immediately.
